The Brazilian Electric Sector

Today the Brazilian generation park has 1,673 plants in operation with 100,254,938 kW of generating capacity.

According to the Boletim Trimestral de Acompanhamento do Mercado de Energia Elétrica e da Economia, published by the Brazilian Energy Research Company (EPE) the Brazilian electric energy market during the first semester of 2007 has reached 181,970 GWh, 5.2% greater than the same period in 2006 meaning a total market around 400 TWh in the year.

The brazilian electric energy market average growth around 5% p.y. indicates the necessity of new 3.000 MW each year based on new power plants indicating a great opportunity for investments.
